Here’s the thing: love is fucked. But it’s a beautiful kind of fucked, the kind that destroys and rebuilds all at once (or sometimes just one or the other), and it’s the kind of fucked you need because without that fucked-up-ness in your life, there is no color or blood or pulse, there is just molasses silence and a repeating series of hard, hollow moments like a string of Christmas lights with all the bulbs burnt out.

This video from Omaha band Icky Blossoms makes sense only in the context of something that makes no sense. The electro-pop trio have created a compelling visual accompaniment for the track “Perfect Vision” featuring young lovers in a universe all their own, and set against the slow-motion destruction of their surroundings (and in a way, themselves), the six-and-a-half-minute song somehow feels both incredibly short and without end. In the end the lovers run from the rubble hand-in-hand, having emerged from their own intensity still in-tact. Because sometimes love drives us to break shit, and sometimes it can’t be fixed. But sometimes, just sometimes, it comes out better in the end.
