The other day my (married, with two kids) cousin called me a crazy cat lady on Facebook. In all fairness, it was in response to a snarky/funny (funny-ish?) comment I made about some child-related status update she made (my bad). But it did get me thinking about the whole “crazy cat lady” stigma, and how incredibly stupid it is. You know why I have cats (yup, plural)? Yes, because I like cats (okay I love cats a lot and maybe my house is littered with cat paraphernalia and maybe I occasionally chat with them) but also because I like animals in general and because I am too busy DOING SHIT to take care of a dog at this juncture of my life. If a couple has cats, that’s totally cool right? And if a single guy has cats, it’s kind of charming. But pair being single with being a woman with having cats and fuck, you must be the saddest loneliest loser on the planet. I’m sure some women sit at home in their muu-muus hoovering down Twinkies and watching Bravo with their cat-friends, but some of us don’t. Some of us like having cats because they need the most minimal amount of attention so while you are off traveling or out seeing shows or PURSUING YOUR DESTINY they’re cool at home.
So yeah I’m not married (yet?) and yeah I don’t have kids (yet) and yeah I have cats. If that makes me a crazy cat lady, GREAT. I am. I’ll have t-shirts printed up and tattoo it on my arm. But do me a favor and save your pity for someone whose life isn’t incredibly fucking awesome (while also being cat-tastic, yeah I said CAT-TASTIC deal with it).
PS Maybe I used this only as a forum to share photos of my cats with you. MAYBE.
