I try to limit my blog consumption for fear of spiraling down an Internet rabbit hole, losing any semblance of individuality and ending up on my ex-boyfriend’s ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend’s Facebook page. But occasionally I make an exception. Some Notes on Napkins is a fashion blog/inspiration board curated  by Jaclyn Johnson, who is one-half of NoSubject, a creatively-driven Los Angeles-based fashion and lifestyle marketing and events agency which aims to promote positive social messages, support the arts and to “inspire, engage and entertain.” Some Notes on Napkins chronicles Ms. Johnson’s eclectic musical and artistic tastes, fashion aspirations, their more affordable solutions and other generally fun, stylish and random knickknacks. I discovered her blog a few years ago, and she’s been sifting through the world wide web of rubbish to bring us note-on-napkin worthy gems ever since. So, in the spirit of SXSW (and the fact that my lucky Cultist cohorts abandoned me and road tripped to Austin to interview rad bands hopefully including Grimes) here is the SXSW edition of Show And Tell, featuring 5 style tips by Jaclyn Johnson + a snazzy bonus collage she made for us of her dream Grimes-inspired ensemble.

1) Headwear: “A fedora, turban or headscarf. Because depending on what you’re doing, which could be a dance party, you might get a little sweaty, your hair might get a little gross and you’re probably going to get some sweaty bang action. You definitely want something to cover that up.”

2) Hardware: “At the end of the day, it is a rock festival, so you should always bring your best studded and spiked jewelry game.”
3) Comfy-Ass Shoes (yes that’s the official name for it): “You definitely want to look stylish, but you need to be able to walk at the end of the night. I recommend boots, flats or converse, anything that’s tried and true, that you’ve already been through the trenches with.”
4) Lots o’ Layers + Crossbody Bag : “You don’t want to get stuck in a club with a big chunky coat and nowhere to put it. I suggest a tank top, cardigan, leather bomber jacket, and even a lightweight scarf. So you can add and detract as much or as little as you want throughout the day. Also, you definitely want a crossbody bag or a backpack. You don’t wan to be lugging around a big camera bag, since all you really need  these days is your iPhone.”
5). iPhone + Backup Charger + Shazam App: “You’re going to be running around all day, and one of the biggest tragedies of festivals is Cell Phone Death. Not only will you want to take all your pictures, but you’ll probably want to Shazam some of these new bands so you can find out what you’re listening to.”
Go see Grimes tomorrow or we’re no longer friends. Thursday, March 15th, 10:45 @ the Pitchfork showcase. Wear something like this!
