Despite all common sense, the Cultist crew and friends settled onto Yasi Couch to suffer through what was possibly THE MOST BORING Oscar ceremony of all time.  Somewhere around hour 653 of the broadcast (and after the LONE moment anyone should care about- Christopher Plummer taking the Oscar for Beginners) we started discussing songs that define a movie.

It has always been a fantasy career of mine to soundtrack films.  My heart  collapses with pain/disappointment/sorrow each time I watch Richie Tenenbaum contemplate his life bathed in fluorescent blue light in Wes Anderson’s masterpiece (I ACTUALLY watch it weekly).  Said heart also swells with excitement/hope/love when Lloyd Dobler stands outside Diane Court’s window with his boombox.  The perfect song placed at the perfect cinematic moment can moisten the eyes and melt the heart of even the hardest amongst us.

This playlist is our gift to you, dear readers, since we needed to fill our minds with something other than the parade of Frenchmen and yippy dogs who took the stage– and because we are the nerdiest of film and music nerds. Listen here.
