Every week leading up to Berserktown II, we will be posting a Seven Questions interview with a band playing the fest. This week: Milk Music. Last week: Screaming Females

Fuck I love Milk Music. The Olympia, WA by way of Mars quartet often gets compared to the likes of the Meat Puppets, Sebadoh, and Dinosaur Jr. (no big deal just some of the best 90s sludge-feel-fuzz bands ever) but they’re more than just a continuation of that Pacific Northwest sonic tradition: they’re on their own wave, melding anti-establishment punk sensibilities with super heavy atmospheric psych influences for a sound that is downright carnal, like a super ripe peach that is bruised and bursting with sticky, pungent juice, but you know, the sound equivalent of that. Their 2013 album Cruise Your Illusion is rife with transcendent guitar work, salient melodies, and intensely beautiful, emotionally vulnerable lyricism from frontman Alex Coxen. It’s the kind of music you want to lay on the floor and listen to naked (you being me, and yes I did do that today just before penning this eloquent piece of music journalism). I can’t wait to see them at Berserktown though I would be lying if I said I wasn’t a little sad that I will have to remain standing and fully clothed.

Here’s an interview with Coxen:

1. What is your life motto?

I’m a frog

2. Who is your muse?

Music and probably dancing

3. What is your idea of abject misery?

Getting hurt or being sad

4. What is your idea of total happiness?

Just happy to be here on planet earth, Yasi.

5. What is the best quality in a woman?

6. What is the best quality in a man?

To be funny and nice and care about our planet

7. What bands are you most excited to see at Berserktown?

Royal Trux

8. Draw a self-portrait:

screammmmm
